Kinser Joins Farr In East Coast Pipeline Team
Wednesday, 24 December 2008 - By Dennis Newlyn
Barry Waldron, owner of the East Coast Pipeline company which has made such a major commitment to Australian sprintcar racing, has signed Steve Kinser to his team for five international meetings at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway.
It is the coup of the decade and with Farr again running so strongly in the Wanless World Series Sprintcars Championship, the East Coast Pipeline team are set for their biggest ever campaign at the high time of the season in different parts of the country.
Farr is preparing for another major assault on Wanless-WSS Speedweek, while Steve Kinser will appear for the East Coast Pipeline team in the international shows at TPCR commencing on Boxing Night with the 31st running of the Valvoline Australian Sprintcar Grand Prix.
The input into Australian sprintcar racing by Barry Waldron in recent years has been overwhelming.
Today he fields one of the most professional sprintcar operations in Australia with Farr as his driver and Nick Speed as crew chief.
The involvement with Kinser started at the Chico Speedway in California where Farr had competed in the annual Gold Cup event.
“I took Robbie over there for some races to give him the opportunity to race against the Americans in their own backyard and Chico was where I met up with Steve.
“I just liked the atmosphere of the racers over there so much, like after trying to beat the hell out of each other on the track, after the races they got together for a beer and to socialise and generally have a great time.
“That was when I started talking with Steve and the conversation led to sponsorship. He said he was looking for a sponsor while in Australia and basically it all went from there.
“With Robbie as my driver of the past few seasons and now with Steve here for the international events at Parramatta, it gives our east Coast Pipeline team great exposure at the high time of the season,” Waldron explained.
Meanwhile Steve Kinser, who is making his sixteenth visit to Australia, is delighted to join forces with Waldron and his East Coast Pipeline operation.
“I just got talking to him (Barry) after the Chico show basically about how he got involved in sprintcar racing. I knew he owned a pipeline business in Queensland and from there we got talking about sponsorship,” Kinser explained.
“We then just worked out a deal and I am very pleased to be a part of his highly professional sprintcar team in Australia,” “The King” added.
Meanwhile, Farr is “over the moon” at having Kinser onboard.
“He is the biggest name there’s ever been in sprintcar racing and to have an association with him is an honour,” Farr acknowledged.
“I think it’s great and Barry’s that kind of guy. Who wouldn’t be happy having Steve Kinser as a team-mate?”
Farr, who is currently placed second in the Wanless World Series Sprintcars Championship point standings heading into the national tournament’s Speedweek series, will line-up with Kinser at TPCR for the $50,000 event on January 2 and 3.
