Kinser Determined to Stay Focused after Tough Week-end
Monday, 23 March 2009 -
Kinser has been consistently strong through the start of 2009, but had a horrible week-end when the World of Outlaws visited Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA, last Friday and Saturday. Kinser had to use a provisional to start Friday night’s show. He did better on Saturday, making the Dash, but was unable to claim anything but a top ten finish. Kinser has been looking for his first win of the season, and running so badly over the week-end was not expected. Kinser was clearly frustrated with how things went from the beginning of Friday to the end of Saturday.
Kinser had trouble with the oil line and had to change motors after hot-laps on Friday, but still didn’t get the car right for qualifying. He qualified 26th. There was very little passing throughout the night and Kinser couldn’t make the transfer through his heat. Kinser started sixth in the night’s B-Main, but couldn’t make it to a fourth place transfer spot. Kinser was forced to take a provisional to start the night’s A-Feature. The track was slightly better in the A-Main, but Kinser, who has came from the back of the field to finish fifth already twice this year, could only make his way to 16th. Saturday was better for Kinser. He made the dash and started 7th, but had a terrible start in the A-Feature. In the 35 lap race, he couldn’t make up any ground. Kinser finished the week-end on Saturday with a 9th place finish. Kinser didn’t have a whole lot to say about either night.
“I just couldn’t get around the track,” said Kinser. “I’m not sure many people could on Friday, but we struggled to make anything happen on either night.”
After the races on Saturday, Kinser had already moved on from the week-end. He was not about to let one bad week-end get the better of him. He feels he should be out there contending for the win every night, and just because he had a bad run in Tulare, he isn’t about to begin thinking any different. He hopes that they’ll probably recover better from this week-end that than have any other this season.
“This is the worst week-end we have had this year,” Kinser said. “We have been running pretty good, maybe running a week-end like this is what we need to put forth a little extra effort. Maybe that’s what we’ve been missing to this point.”
The last thing that Kinser plans to do is accept a run like last week-end’s. Kinser will be zoned in when he gets to the track this Saturday at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, AZ. Kinser has been racing and winning at Manzanita since 1979 and, much like his unprecedented career, has had remarkable success at the track. Kinser has won the prestigious Western World seven times. Including preliminary A-Features, Kinser has won 10 World of Outlaws A-Features at Manzanita. He has won even more unsanctioned races there, but winning this Saturday with the Outlaws would mean more any of those wins. Manzanita Raceway will be closing and Saturday will be Kinser’s final race at Manzi. Over his long career, Kinser has seen many race tracks close and Kinser knows how special it is to claim that final win and he will be holding nothing back come Saturday night.
